Lan Nguyen

Lan Nguyen serves as a Senior Policy Associate at the Civic Committee. In this role, she leverages her analytic abilities and understanding of public finance and pension systems to provide valuable insights into policy discussions surrounding the State of Illinois and the City of Chicago.

Since joining the Civic Committee in 2019, Lan's responsibilities have extended to studying budgets, tax policy, and pensions on both state and city levels. Her work has contributed to several research initiatives at the Civic Committee, most notably the data analysis for the report Securing Illinois’ Future: Stabilizing State Finances to Promote Long-Term Growth (2023).

Lan's expertise is diverse, extending to qualitative and quantitative analyses on a wide range of policy topics such as state and city finance, pension, tax policy, education, and transportation.

Lan first joined the Civic Committee as the Data Fellow of the Applied Data Fellowship, a University of Chicago program based at the Harris School of Public Policy. In her previous role, she managed USAID’s Provincial Competitiveness Index project in Vietnam, advocating for enhanced local economic governance. She holds a Master of Arts Degree in International Development and Policy from the University of Chicago Harris School of Public Policy and is a proud participant of the inaugural Obama Foundation Scholars Program.

Outside of her professional pursuits, Lan enjoys delving into the rich culture and vibrant history of Chicago, making the most of the city's lively atmosphere in her free time.
